Simply by participating in this challenge, you could earn the privilege of witnessing the practice airshow in person on Friday, October 13th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. , FOR FREE!* You may also qualify for additional awards, such as seeing the aircraft up close, talking to the pilots, and even flying an Idaho Air National Guard Apache helicopter simulator. Who is eligible?

Any group that works with K-12 students is eligible – out-of-school groups as well as school-based groups and classes. Applicants might be teachers, Scout leaders, community center specialists, or many others.

What do I need to do?

All you need to do is to design and complete a STEM-based lesson or activity, and then send us a small write-up of what you did. To help you create and lesson or activity, we have put together a list of resources that can help you get started (link of the left of the page).

How can I apply?

Your group or school needs to complete the application (link in the margin) describing what you are going to do. The extra awards will be given based upon the rubric (also listed on the left). So the more you do, the better your chances of winning one of the awesome, extra awards. Good luck!

As part of the application, you will need to fill out the 2017 STEM Outreach Airshow Lesson Application (link in the margin) and email your lesson plans to


  • Application due by Monday, May 1st
  • Notification in the week of May 15th
  • Conduct your lesson in the summer or fall by October 7th
  • Submit your final evidence by October 7th
